A 12-rai man-made forest in the city you need to visit at least once.

I have to say that being a city folk today is pretty much getting used to the concrete jungle, the smog, and all the lovely pollution that comes with it.

Forest in the city

Every now and again, one must find a way to ‘return to nature’ and if one does not have a lot of time, one can always go find a beautiful patch of greenery just on the edge of Bangkok.

“Pa Nai Krung” or the forest in the city is a brainchild project of  Petroleum Authority of Thailand’s (PTT).

The viewing tower

Pa Nai Krung is located on Sukhaphiban 2 Road in the eastern part of Bangkok.

Kudos to PTT for turning this 12-rai of what used to be a dirty landfill garbage dump site into a gorgeous man-made forest with beautiful trees and flowers, clean ponds and streams, a waterfall, and the unassuming exhibition building with flower gardens on top.

The pond

The guests are greeted with an optional seven-minute introduction video (only in Thai unfortunately) that once over, the back wall panels will swing open revealing the entrance into the forest and the skywalk that leads to the viewing tower.

The skywalk hovers over the canopy. There’s plenty, and I mean plenty, of Instagrammable viewpoints everywhere.

You can also check out the plants information from various information panels along the path.

The viewing tower offers a 360-degree bird’s eye view of the forest. I totally recommend everyone to check out the top of the viewpoint tower. It’s seriously gorgeous view.

Descending from the viewpoint tower, the skywalk leads into a shaded area under the canopy.

You can take the small path through the trees leading back to the exhibition building.

Exhibition building

There’s a flight of narrow brick stairs in between the exhibition building’s walls leading to the rooftop garden with various different orchids, flowers, dotted with chairs and seats.

I’d totally recommend hanging around here for a bit and looking out towards the beautiful forest. It’s quite a view … if it wasn’t too hot.

But then this is Thailand, so it might be pretty hot … take quick pictures and get outta there might also be a good idea.

How to get there

Take the BTS to Udom Suk BTS Station then take the taxi.

You can tell the driver to go to “Pa Nai Krung” and they’ll take you there.
