An 80-year-old and still going strong family-owned restaurant that is well loved by many from near and far.

What is Satay

Satay (or Sate) is originally from Indonesia. It is a dish of seasoned skewered, and grilled meat served with specific Satay sauce. It’s popular in Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

In Singapore, Satay places usually operate at night time while in Thailand, it’s kind of an all-day type dishes.

Chong Kee Pork Satay Restaurant

Chong Kee Pork Satay restaurant is where some really, really delicious Satay lies. Located near the China Tower, just don’t be fooled by the unassuming look of the place. Wait till you see the lines.

Don’t expect anything glamorous here, in fact, there’s only ONE menu on offer … Satay.

Chong Kee Satay is a family-run Satay-only restaurant that is about 3 generation old or approximately 80 plus years old. The restaurant only serve either pork or liver Satay paired with delectable beverages like Chrysanthemum, Roselle, O-Leang (Thai-style dark – and super sweet – coffee), or Thai tea.

The Satay

The Satay menu here is made from pork loin or liver. The meat is marinated in the special mixture of fresh fruit juices to make the meat becomes nice, supple, and soft. It also offers a hint of acidity to the meat.

The meat is then covered in yellow curry powder mixture then grilled. The Satay is then served with two kinds of dips.

One is a mixture of sliced cucumbers (the little ones), red onions, and chili in vinegar which I love. Another is the traditional Satay sauce made from a mixture of curry powder, chilli, garlic, various spices, lemongrass, and Galangal with the peanut top note and aroma. Just oh-so-gooood!

The Sauce

For this restaurant, the Satay sauce’s texture if rather runny rather than the usual thick and nutty seen in other restaurants. However, it’s not any less rich or robust than it should be. Seriously, if you would have this with steamed rice, pour the sauce into the rice and mix it together and that would be added bonus for the taste buds.
